Md Hay to NY Rescued Horses- FingerLakes SPCA

We have secured 650 bales of Hay to be delivered to the Finger Lakes SPCA for the 90+ NY Horses that were rescued on Aug 29-30.

At $4 a bale (delivered) we need to raise $2600 to provide them with 650 bales. We are currently at $1000.  I know times are tough but would you please consider helping these horses?

Like the Humane Society of Wash. County MD with the Sharpsburg horses 2 years ago this rescue is daunting to the SPCA in Finger Lakes.

Please consider making a donation and pass this along to anyone you know that would be interested.

Donations to our hay fund should be addressed as follows:
ATTENTION VICKY MOSGROVE

Horse Charity info from Fran:

I am working with Angel Acres Horse Haven just over the Md Line at the end of Middletown Rd. to help Jo Deibel save TBs from slaughter. She pulls them out of the killpen at New Holland. We have a really successful fundraiser (decorating horse shoes) going but we need help! All of the $ goes towards the purchase of these horses!!

In order for our decorated shoes to continue to be profitable we need to get shoe donations. We have run out!!  Horse shoes of course! Please ask your farrier if he has any shoes he doesn't need.  Please don't throw your worn shoes away. Recycle them with us!! The easiest to paint are aluminum but we will take any used or unused.

I have purchased my sister's horse van ("Blue") from Mehdi at Winter's Run Farm (thanks Mehdi- you are the greatest!!) and it is going to be donated to Angel Acres. "Blue", whom Garrison Forest girls remember fondly, will be here at my farm starting tomorrow night for a few weeks until Jo picks her up. It is my hope that while Blue is here that we can really fill her up with horse shoes. That way when Jo picks her up she will have lots to work with!! Shoes can be dropped off here at my farm- Boxwood Farm, 2616 Monkton Rd. Monkton,MD. Please drop them off and put them in Blue's side door. It will be unlocked just for this cause.

Please spread the word for me. Also, please go to http://www.angelacreshorsehavenrescue.com/. Check out Jo's "online shoe store" By the way, she will do custom ones. We have done some for specific horses, farms, and recently she sent one to a child in Shock Trauma. They make great holiday gifts as well as of course they are "lucky!"

Jo Deibel is doing great work saving these horses out of the kill pen and retraining them for adoption. She has some quite nice 6-7 yr olds that would make excellent show prospects. Also, if any of your kids need community service time Jo could really use help.

Note: Angel Acres is a 501 (c) 3. The rescue is dedicated to saving horses from slaughter for human consumption in Europe and Asia.

Update 10-24-07:

  • Freedom Hills also has a benefit dinner and auction each year.  It is usually held at the end of February or early March in Perryville at the banquet hall attached to the Fire Department.   They have a ton of stuff to bid on, some silent, some live.  If you want to support their cause but can’t help this weekend, keep the banquet in mind.

ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is building a new house and stable in Port Deposit, for a very deserving family. The Luther family has run the Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program since 1982.( http://www.freedomhills.org/ ) The program brings people with disabilities together with horses for a unique rehabilitation experience. Mr. Luther died from cancer earlier this year, leaving Mrs. Luther with 2 children to raise alone and the threat of losing the farm and the Program. The rebuilding of the house and out building will be taking place this week. The show is scheduled to air in January.

A website has been setup by Clark Turner Signature Homes where you can follow the progress, apply to be a volunteer, and if possible make a donation to help this Therapy program continue. There are even directions to the site for those who wish to see first hand, how they manage to complete the projects in 7 days.

Remember, we all need to help out to make our world a better place to live. Whether it be donating time/money, holding the door for someone, letting a car merge into your lane or rebuilding a home. Every little bit helps.

Thanks for taking time to read this,

John

  • UPDATE - The Western MD Horses were awarded to the Washington County Humane Society.  As a result, these animals are now ready to be adopted.  Adoption fees begin at $500.  These fees are going towards the medical expenses ($100,000+) that were incurred to rehabilitate and treat the abused animals.  If you are interested in adopting one of them or know of someone who may be able to take companion animals, please contact the Washing County Humane Society. They contine to look for cash donations to offset incurred expenses.  Anyone wishing to make a dontation in support of these animals should contact the Humane Society of Washington County.

Visit http://wjz.com for the most recent story and see one of Harford County's own rider's - Samantha Schlict who's family has adopted one of the Mini's.
